Arthritis is a common condition among the older population. It causes joint pain and inflammation and can make day to day life a challenge. Processed and Fried Foods

Although processed and fried foods are tasty and convenient, they can take a toll on a senior’s joints. This protein has been known to irritate the tissue around the joint muscles, making it a good idea for seniors with arthritis to rely on vegetables like beans, spinach, and quinoa to get the majority of their protein intake.

 

Alcohol

Most seniors are aware that excessive alcohol consumption can lead to health problems. However, many do not realize that it can damage the joints and increase the risk of or worsen arthritis. Sodium

Often times, seniors add salt to their meals in order to give them flavor. Since sodium may lead to joint inflammation, it’s a good idea for older adults with arthritis to replace salt with healthier seasonings such as lemon juice, garlic, and onion.

 

By reducing their intake of processed and fried foods, sugars and refined carbs, dairy products, alcohol, and sodium, older adults with arthritis can improve their quality of life.
